It drives you nuts. Your love your car, truck, or SUV but when it’s in the sun it looks like your vehicle looks like it is covered in spiderwebs. Swirls and surfaces level scratches take away from the overall appearance of your car and its value. Optimum Car Detailing can fix this problem for you and restore the beauty in your vehicle’s paint through a paint correction process.

Yes, paint correction is a process. Many weekend warriors think that by simply taking a polisher to the surface of their vehicle they can “buff-out” swirls and scratches. There are even car detailers who don’t know the proper process for paint correction. If a process is not followed more harm will be done to your car’s paint. We will walk you through the proper steps so when you decide you need a correction performed on your vehicle you know it will be done right.

Measuring The Clear Coat

Paint correction is really just removing a thin layer of clear coat from your vehicle. The swirls and minor scratches live on the surface of the clear coat. Polishing the clear coat levels off that layer and removes the swirls and scratches. However, we do not want to remove too much of the clear coat because it is the protective layer of your vehicle’s overall paint job. We also need to make sure there is enough of the clear coat layer to work with in the first place. This is why we measure the amount of clear coat on the vehicle using a paint thickness gauge.

Clay Bar & Washing The Vehicle’s Exterior

Once we have determined that there is enough clear coat to go ahead with the paint correction we need to remove any sort of contamination on the car’s paint. This is a two-step process starting with a thorough car was and then a clay bar treatment. A clay bar is a piece of clay that is used along with a lubricant to remove any remaining contaminants from the vehicle’s surface. These would be the tough contaminates that were not able to be removed with a simple car wash like tree sap for example. After a clay bar treatment, your vehicle’s paint should be smooth to the touch and ready for the paint correction.

Paint Correction

Correcting your vehicle’s paint is done using a dual-action polisher, a pad with a grade that coincides with the level of correction being performed, and a polish that is also in line with the correction needs. The technician who performs the paint correction should always start with a 2 ft by 2 ft test area to ensure that the pad in combination with the polish is going to produce the desired results. You and the technician should come to an understanding of what the expected results will be before the paint correction service begins. This is extremely important and will ensure that you are getting what you pay for.
